Teramoto
P-Waves for the last 100 hours.
Teramoto is a research project used to determine the validity of an earthquake prediction theory/algorithm. Teramoto implements the Vespucci GIS framework to gather, store, and render USGS data. Once stored, the data is used to calculate seismic primary waves (P-Wave). A P-Wave is a compressional wave generated from the epicenter of an earthquake through the Earth and reflected off of the Earth's core at certain angles. The P-Wave, in conjunction with the Earth's tectonic plates, faults and geological hot spots combined with an algorithm can be used to predict zones most likely to be struck by future earthquakes. Teramoto also implements OOGA, an object oriented genetic algorithm, to adjust the algorithm by comparing historical P-Waves, plates, faults and hot spots with historical earthquake epicenters. The picture at top left illustrates the relationship between the earthquakes, shown in red, with that of the P-Waves, the black lines and circles, over the course of a 100 hour period.
